A full-height scaffold around the brick tower of a church in Newbury, taken above the parapet for repointing works to the main tower.
The project
This church in Newbury has a brick tower rising beside its flint nave, set in a churchyard of old headstones. Repointing the main tower meant reaching every part of its brickwork, from the ground to the top of the parapet, while working with care around the church and the churchyard.
We wrapped the tower in a scaffold from the churchyard to above the parapet, with working lifts all the way up and ladders between them inside the scaffold. At the top, the scaffold rises above the parapet with guardrails, giving safe access to the highest brickwork. Where the tower meets the church, a lattice beam carries the scaffold over the roof of the nave.
