Support scaffolding
Structures designed to carry the load
Not every scaffold is there just for access. Support scaffolds carry loads, whether that means holding up formwork, supporting part of a structure during alterations, or giving a stable base for heavy materials and equipment. Because these structures take real loads, they are designed for the job rather than built to a standard arrangement. One of our most unusual was a free-standing frame in Aldershot that carried a green-screen backdrop for the film World War Z. They are erected by our CISRS-qualified scaffolders to the approved design and inspected throughout the hire.

Ask a questionWhat is support scaffolding?
Support scaffolding is scaffolding designed to carry loads rather than simply give access, for example supporting formwork, part of a structure during alterations, or heavy materials and equipment.
Does it need a bespoke design?
Load-bearing scaffolds generally fall outside the standard TG20:21 arrangements, so they need a bespoke design. We will arrange the design and supply it with the method statement.
Can you work with our structural engineer?
Yes. We work to your engineer’s requirements and loads, and supply the design and documentation they need to sign off the arrangement.
Can one scaffold give support and access?
Often, yes. A single structure can carry a load and provide working platforms. We will recommend the right arrangement at the survey.
Is the scaffold inspected during the hire?
Yes. Scaffolds must be inspected by a competent person before first use, after any alteration or event such as high winds, and at least every seven days. We carry out these checks through the hire and keep the records up to date.
