A free-standing scaffold frame, built in Aldershot as the backdrop for a green screen on the feature film World War Z.
The project
Not every scaffold goes up against a building. For the feature film World War Z, the production needed a huge backdrop to carry a green screen on an open site in Aldershot. With no building to tie into, the whole structure had to stand up on its own.
We built a tall, free-standing scaffold frame running the length of the set, several bays deep, with raking buttresses along the back to keep it stable. The standards stand on base plates and timber pads spread across the tarmac. In front of the frame, the film crew built their timber set pieces, with the scaffold forming the structure that carried the green-screen backdrop.
