Scaffolding around several wings of a red-brick Oxford college for refurbishment works, taken up to the gables and every chimney stack.
The project
This project covered refurbishment works to college buildings in Oxford: large red-brick blocks with steep gables, dormers and tall chimney stacks, set around lawns. Work on historic buildings like these needs access to the whole envelope, from the ground-floor windows to the tops of the stacks, while protecting the building and the grounds around it.
We scaffolded several wings of the college to their full height, following the building round its corners and returns and taking the scaffold up to the gables. Each chimney stack has its own scaffold platform, so every stack could be reached safely from the scaffold. A fenced site compound on the lawn held the skip, welfare unit and materials, keeping the working area separate from the rest of the college grounds.
Scaffolds following the building round its corners and returns.
Separate platforms built around each stack.
Access to steep gables, dormers and brickwork on a period building.
Works fenced off from the rest of the college grounds.
