Periodic safety checks

Safe on day one, and every day after

A scaffold that was safe when it went up will not stay that way on its own. Weather, alterations, overloading and interference all take their toll, which is why scaffolds must be inspected by a competent person before first use, after any alteration or event that could affect them, such as high winds, and at least every seven days. All our scaffolding is erected and inspected by qualified scaffolders, and we carry out periodic safety checks through the hire, recording the results so your site records stay complete.

  • At least every seven days

Inspections at the intervals the law requires, for as long as the scaffold is up.

  • After bad weather

Checks after high winds, storms or anything else that could affect the scaffold.

  • After every alteration

Re-inspected whenever the scaffold is altered or adapted.

  • Results recorded

Each inspection recorded, so your records stay complete.

What is checked

What an inspection covers

A competent inspector checks the scaffold against its design and the way it is being used.

  • Foundations

Base plates and sole boards sound, and the ground beneath not undermined.

  • Ties and bracing

Ties in place and secure, and bracing intact.

  • Platforms

Boards complete, secure and free of damage or overloading.

  • Access

Ladders and staircases secure and in good order.

  • Netting and protection

Debris netting, fans and sheeting intact.

How it works

From survey to strike

One team looks after your scaffold from the first site visit to the day it comes down.

  1. Survey

We visit the site, measure up and check access, ground conditions and whether a highway licence is needed.

  2. Design & paperwork

The scaffold is specified to TG20:21, or designed bespoke where the structure needs it, with method statements and risk assessments issued before work starts.

  3. Written quote

You receive a clear quotation setting out the scaffold, the hire period and the programme.

  4. Erect & hand over

Our CISRS-qualified team erects the scaffold, then inspects and tags it before anyone uses it.

  5. Inspect & adapt

Inspections continue through the hire, and we adapt the scaffold as the work moves on.

  6. Strike & clear

When the job is done, we dismantle the scaffold and clear the site on the agreed date.

Ask a question

How often does a scaffold need inspecting?

Before it is first used, after any alteration or event that could affect it, such as high winds, and at least every seven days while it is in use.

Who can inspect a scaffold?

A competent person with the training and experience to spot defects, typically a scaffolder holding a relevant CISRS scaffold inspection qualification.

What happens if a defect is found?

The defect is recorded and the scaffold, or the affected part, is taken out of use until it has been put right.

Do I need to keep the inspection reports?

Yes. Inspection reports should be kept on site while the scaffold is in use. We will make sure the records for our scaffolds are complete.

Is edge protection inspected too?

Yes. Guardrails, toe boards, staircases and netting are all part of the scaffold and are checked at every inspection.
