English Heritage work
Access that protects historic fabric
Historic buildings need scaffolding that gives full access without harming what makes them special. Ties and fixings have to respect old masonry, delicate features need protecting, and the scaffold often has to follow complicated rooflines and chimneys. English Heritage is among the clients we have worked for, alongside historic schools and colleges including Eton College, Shiplake College and an Oxford college. We plan every heritage scaffold with the owner, architect or conservation team, and agree how it will be tied and protected before work starts.
Respect for the fabric
Ties and fixings agreed in advance, placed to limit the effect on historic masonry.
Protected features
Protection for delicate features, windows and surfaces around the scaffold.
Complex rooflines
Scaffolds that follow gables, dormers and chimney stacks.
Planned with your team
Agreed with the owner, architect or conservation officer before work starts.

FAQs
Heritage & listed building scaffolding questions
Straight answers to the things people ask before booking scaffolding. Anything else, just call 0800 2086 905 or 07831 197615.
Ask a questionHave you worked on heritage buildings before?
Yes. Our clients include English Heritage, Eton College, Shiplake College and an Oxford college.
How do you avoid damaging a historic building?
We agree the tie and fixing positions before work starts, place them to limit the effect on the historic fabric, and protect delicate features around the scaffold. The approach is set out in the method statement.
Do I need consent for scaffolding on a listed building?
Check with your local planning authority’s conservation officer, particularly if the scaffold needs fixing into the historic fabric. We are happy to share the proposed tie arrangement with them in advance.
Can you scaffold complex rooflines and chimneys?
Yes. Period buildings often have gables, dormers and tall stacks, and we design the scaffold to follow them so every part of the roof can be reached safely.
Is the scaffold inspected during the hire?
Yes. Scaffolds must be inspected by a competent person before first use, after any alteration or event such as high winds, and at least every seven days. We carry out these checks through the hire and keep the records up to date.
